START DOING THIS PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY
If your laptop has started to feel sluggish, it might be
time to consider some upgrades. Many people incorrectly assume that the laptop
is sealed unit just because it's a
portable machine , but there are myriad different options open to you that can
increase the performance of your system. While it's true that you don't have
the same number of options as yoy would for a desktop, it's usaully possible to
easily upgrade the memory and storage of your system as well as add additional
connectivity of functionality via PC card devices. The more daring enthusiat
could also look at upgrading teh processor or screen of their systems, while
some of the larger gaming machines can even have their GPUs replaced.
These upgrades will require a little more effort but so long
as you keep a mental or diagrammatical note of where each screw goes during
disassembly , you should be able to ressemble the machine after upgrading its
guts without too much effort.
In this guide we will be giving you a step by step on how to
upgrade the core components of a typical gaming laptop .Our guinea pig is an
MSI GX740, a 17' laptop featuring a dual core Intel Core i5 450M CPU, a mobile
AMD Radeon 5870 and a glossy 1680*1050 resolution screen. it also has a
2.5" 500GB 5400rpm hard disk and 4G of DDR3 memory . It's still a relatively fast machine , but
at nearly three years old, it's just approaching an age where its performance is starting to
suffer compared to more contemporary alternatives. for the purposes of this
guide we will be upgrading the harddisk to a 256 GB Samsung 840 series solid-state drive after coling the operating
system . We will be upgrading the memory to 8Gb od DDr3 Ram as well as
replacing the i5 chip with a quad-core i7
variant and we will have a stab at replacing the GPU . we will also be
replacing the glossy WXGA+ screen with a matt variant as the glossy coating,
while enhancing the vividness of colours in a darkened room, makes the machine basically unusable in
direct sunlight or outdoors.
Finding upgraded parts for laptops can be tricky , as most
mobile CPUs are sold from intel directly to the OEM( original equipment
manufacturer) .The most reliable source for parts will therefore be laptop
parts suppliers on eBay ,flipkart or
other similiar auction sites. These firms break non-functional laptopsand
resell the working parts as apares . Mobile GPUs are even trickier to find ;
Once again eBay is your best bet, although there are a few
firms in the state specialising in Clevo components , who are willing to
ship internationally . Fortunately upgrading memory and the storage drive is
far apinful.ANy 2.5" SSD upgrade should fit into 99% of laptops and
SO-DIMM laptop memory is no more
difficult to find than desktop alternatives. before embarking on any laptop
upgrade project it is essential to find out if your proposed upgrades are
physically supported by the laptop.
Just because a GPU fits into the same kind
of slot, for example, doesn't mean taht it supports the motherboard of your machine or that its
cooling is up to the task.Rather than taking all of the risk yourself , it's
therefore wise to let someone else perform the upgrade first and post their
experiences on a laptop forum. At least then
if you get into trouble you’ll have someone to ask for advice!
